Costs and Timing
Totally Free: The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program is totally free for donors and stations. It is the most efficient program of its kind, delivering over 56% of gross revenue to stations in 2005.. The latest Attorney General of California report showed that the average program yielded only 42% of gross proceeds to local charities.
Guaranteed the Best Return to Stations: The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program is guaranteed to deliver more per vehicle to stations than other legitimate national vehicle donation services. Currently, it pays 83% of net revenue to stations, thousands of dollars more than the typical 70% share given by other programs.
The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program is operated by V-DAC, the only program that publishes rate structures.
V-DAC is the most efficient program of its type, duplicating the methods used by the largest national charity programs. Every process is carefully designed to minimize costs while meeting donor expectations.
V-DAC absorbs all negatives. Occasionally, vehicles fail to cover the cost of transportation, processing and sale. When this happens, V-DAC absorbs the negative. Stations get only checks for net revenue - never bills.
Program Fees:
The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program fee structure generates higher returns than other vehicle donation programs. Stations receive more than 10% more per vehicle than other programs. Fees have been reduced for 2006 and are explained below:

The $75 minimum fee is waived on "junkers" as net proceeds for these vehicles rarely exceed this. Vehicles that will not cover the normal costs of auctioning are sent directly to dismantlers for a set fee so that charities can benefit from even very low value vehicles. However, we still have to turn down "junkers" that are not located within towing range of a dismantler that meets our service quality standards.
V-DAC is the only program of its type that can properly handle titles in all 50 states. The V-DAC program operates as a licensed wholesaler in all 50 states so all titles are correctly transferred. V-DAC never illegally leaves vehicle owner sections blank.
The V-DAC program protects donors and fully indemnifies non-profits. V-DAC maintains a $2,000,000 liability insurance policy. Titles are properly filled out and never given to tow truck drivers so theft of vehicles is eliminated.
Timing
Higher value vehicles can be picked up within a day, while lower value vehicle are not picked up until titles are reviewed to eliminate expensive rework. Lower value vehicles are usually picked up within one week of when paperwork is received. (Call if you need quicker pickup.) It usually takes over 2 months from the time the vehicle is picked-up until any net cash proceeds are delivered to the non-profit. The agents at our call center (866-789-8627) keep track of the timing and status of the vehicle in the disposition process.
